Beautiful Nepalese and Tibetan jewelry
at wholesale prices
In my years of visiting Nepal I have developed sources of remarkable handmade jewelry, much of it not available anywhere else. Many Tibetan and Nepali craftsmen produce only a small number of items and then move on to new, different designs or to other work entirely. Often these special things are created especially for my shop. I purchase them in Nepal, directly and indirectly from independent Tibetan and Nepalese artists who work in their own homes, when they want to, and set their own prices. Many come from families that have been making jewellery and other fine metal art for uncounted generations, and this tradition shows in the quality of their work.
Care of Your JewelryRings, pendants, amulets, bracelets and other creations of Copper, Nickel and Silver will grow dull when exposed to air or water. The effect is the same on a penny or nickel coin, which are similar metals. You may wish to restore the brilliant shine to your handcrafted jewelery by polishing it. A brass cleaner such as Brasso will work fine for Copper and Nickel, a Silver polish is best for Silver, and a jeweler's rouge cloth will create a bit better, like-new polish on most metals. Even a brisk rubbing with a simple cotton cloth will restore some lustre. Storing any jewelry in closed plastic bags will help keep it polished. Some people who wear their treasures all the time have told me they never need to polish them.
A ring or bracelet containing Copper or Silver can leave green or black color on the skin on many (but not all) people. This is a chemical effect of the metal and is not harmful, indeed if you want Copper for healing purposes it is a sign that the metal is active. You can prevent this effect by painting the inside of the object with clear nail polish or polyurethane varnish.
A few people get a rash from wearing jewelry of some metals (such as Nickel) against their skin. Most people who have this allergic reaction know what metals they can wear and should choose items of acceptable metals. The product description of each lot includes the metal composition of the items.
